Snhetta has been commissioned for the design of the Shanghai Grand Opera House in Shanghai, China, following an international design competition. Snhetta has revealed visuals featuring a spiraling stepped roof that will connect the upper levels of the building with a riverside plaza.
Located in Expo Houtan, the project will allow international audiences of any age to watch both traditional and contemporary performances, from Chinese opera to classical concerts to experimental performances. Capturing the dynamism of dance and the human body, the helical roof evokes an unfolding fan.
