Shenzhen gets an art centre with a rooftop park

URBANUS, a Beijing architecture firm won the international competition to design an art centre in the city of Shenzhen. The technology hub and the headquarters for the famous tech-firm ‘Huawei’, had surfaced a competition to design an art centre which could accommodate recreational facilities and would create more open public spaces amidst the pre-existing urban villages and industrial areas the city has to offer. URBANUS proposes a design that fully amalgamates the city park and the art centre which encompasses a theatre complex along with science and art museum in itself. The design integration takes place with help of a U-shaped courtyard oriented towards the park with an undulated roof which acts as an extension to the public path of the park and thus creates a string of active open spaces.
