Architecture practice A-01 has designed a ‘No Footprint House’ along the southern pacific coast of Costa Rica. The open floor plan house designed with a central utility core enables climate control through passive means such as natural ventilation and solar shading. As a response to the tropical weather, the house has a double layer of the structural columns and the outer skin which is deliberately incline to keep the sun out. The double layer envelopes the heat and keeps it cooler in the hottest hours of the day. With its free standing furniture, the spaces have regulated ventilation because of the panels which simultaneously gives a dynamic to the transition.
