London-based studio Steven Chilton Architects signs off on the Wuxi Show Theatre. The theatre is designed to represent an abstract representation of the largest bamboo forest in China. A ‘bamboo forest’ consisting of slender ‘bamboo stalks’ and a ‘canopy of leaves’ encircles the theatre building, thus separating it from the surrounding landscape.
Split into three parts: the columns, a cover, and an internal volume, the circular building draws inspiration from Yixing’s Sea of Bamboo Park, the country’s largest bamboo forest.
