Swatch has finally inaugurated the new headquarters in northwestern Switzerland designed by Shigeru Ban. The architect has always been known for using materials innovatively in architecture and this time he has created one of the largest timber structures in the world. The 240-meter-long curved vaulted structure is made possible due to timber grid shell construction. The teams used 3D technology to define the cross beams of the structure. Undulated heights of the structure add to the dynamics as it gradually moves towards ‘cité du temps’, another Ban design. While the highest measure of the undualtions is 27 meters, the width of the structure is 35 meters. The office in real encompasses total five floors with gradually decreased surface areas due to the vaulted façade.
